Living through pandemics —

4Family-History

Social distancing, the need to wear masks, lockdowns, frontline workers – suddenly this has become routine. Not to mention daily death reports and illness totals. I am absolutely dumbfounded that we are living in such times. (Why I am dumbfounded … Continue reading →

Lorum Elmer Jackson, Cowboy and Grandfather

4Family-History

In 1957, my father and mother packed their three children, into the back of the old Buick and headed west. They traveled from New Jersey to visit family in Utah and Arizona. It was quite a journey and I remember it well. (By the way, we never made a cross-country car trip again. My Mother denies all memory of the experience. And from then on, Dad put us on a plane, and if he drove, he drove alone.)

Stories about our ancestors will also include monthly birthday remembrances. Although birthday celebrations differ between cultures and time periods, their importance to humanity is unquestioned. My Adventures in Retirement!

Welcome to 4Family History!

Moiselle & Nancy

This is a photo of my grandmother, Moiselle (Stoney) Burbidge and myself, about 1953. She was one of my genealogy mentors. She loved researching family history and enlisted me to help her share what she learned. That tradition continues here.

Here you will find the histories, stories, tales, and even the tall tales, of our Burbidge, Cummings, Jackson, and Sorofman families. These stories are focused on the ancestors of my children and so they include both sides of the family aisle.

This is a big undertaking. In order to bring some sanity into this plan, I’ll be focusing on the stories of our ancestors who made it across the ocean to the Americas.
