    "Colonial Soldiers of the South, 1732-1774" page 194 His Majesty's Ship Fireship Phaeton Muster Book: A List of Soldiers belonging to Captain James Innes' Company, Third Battalion of Colonel (sic) Gooch's Regiment, borne for victuals at whole allowance by order from Vice Admiral Vernon, date entered 8 February 1741/2, date of discharge July 1742.     @S09298@ In 1738 Margaret, widow of John Gass, lived "opposite to Henry Gass" in Pennsboro Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. 1762 Cumberland Co., Pa., Warrant Register, Vol. 12, page 57, Nos. 40 & 42 1762/67-76/78-80/82, Tyrone Twp., Cumberland Co., Pa., tax lists Cumberland Co., Pa., Adm. Book, Vol B, page 39 Cumberland Co., Pa., Orphans Court, Vol. 3, page 28 *He is unlikely a son of Samuel & grandson of John Bourbon County, Ky - Deed Book E - page 20 This Indenture made and concluded this twenty fourth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight between John Gass (son of Henry) of the county of Bourbon and state of Kentucky of one part, and John Gass (son of David) of the county and state aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said John Gass (son of Henry) for and inconsideration of the sum of ten pounds current money of Kentucky, to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof he dath hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained, sold and by these presents doth, grant bargain and sell unto the said John Gass (son of David) his heirs or asigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land containing by survey two hundred acres, lying and being in Bourbon County on the head of Johnstons fork of Licking, being the Eastward by half of a settlement right granted to the said John Gass( son of Henry) by patent, bearing date the twenty third day of May in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and bounded as followith, to wit, Beginning ... In witness where of the said John Gass (son of Henry) hath here unto set his hand and affixed his seal, the day and year first above writen in presence of us John Gass James Black Joseph Henderson James Gass Bourbon County January Court 1799 This deed of bargain and sale from John Gass (son of Henry) to John Gass (son of David) was proved by the oath of James Black, Joseph Henderson and James Gass witnesses there to and ordered to be recorded.

Application for Membership to the National Society of the DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, Washington, D.C.; "State: Georgia City: Atlanta Name of Chapter: Joseph Habersham (sp) National Number: 26847 Mrs.: Mary Belle Gess McDonald Widow of: William Ross McDonald Residence: 1130 Piedmont Ave., Atlanta, Ga. Descendant of: John Gess. LINEAGE: I, Mary Belle Gess McDonald being of the age of eighteen years and upwards, hereby apply for membership in the Society by right of lineal descent in the following line from John Gass (Gess) who was born in Va. or Ky. on the (child born from 1774)..., and died in Fayette Co., Ky. on the 16 day of April, 1799. His place of residence during the Revolution was Va. and Ky. I was born near Boonesborough, County of Fayette State of Kentucky. I am the daughter of..., John Winn Gess born 9/10/1843, died 9/29/1894 and his wife Martha Ann Tumlin, born 11/17/1843, died 10/11/1891, married 3/13/1867. The said, John Winn Gess was the child of John Winn Gess, born 8/18/1810 and died 8/06/1849 and his wife Mary Ann Spurr, born 2/29/1810, died 2/03/1882, married 12/18/1832. The said, John Winn Gess was the child of John Gess, born 9/08/1774, died 8/13/1849 and his wife Ann Winn, born 6/28/1779, died 12/25/1855, married 1/19/1800 (?06). The said, John Gess was the child of John Gess born...........died 4/16/1799 and his wife Sarah Lucas, born........died, 3/01/1841 or 1842.
