Lulu (Gass) Stoney & Daughters
This photo was snapped around 1939 or 1940 in Salt Lake City by person unknown. It came into my hands through my mother through her mother, Moiselle (Stoney) Burbidge. My mother, who was raised with all of these women, identified each one and their relationship to Lulu. Thanks Mom! Actually, I knew and recognized all of my Great Aunts except for Gertrude.
(back row, left) Lulu is grouped with her daughters, step-daughters and step-daughters in-law. Whew, that’s a mouthful. Lulu Gass married Charles T. Stoney in 1906; he was a widower with four small children: Claude, Oral, Leon and Louis. Charles T. and Lulu had two of their own children, Moiselle and Wiora. Moiselle is my maternal grandmother.
(back row, middle) Oral is the daughter of Charles T. Stoney and Louis Crosby, Charles T. Stoney’s first wife. She is Lulu’s step-daughter. She married James Burdett. I knew them as Uncle Jim and Aunt Oral.
(back row, far right) Gertrude, married to Leon Stoney, son of Charles T. & Louis (Crosby) Stoney, is a step-daughter in-law to Lulu. She married Leon. I don’t believe I ever met them. At least, I don’t remember either one.
(front row, left) Julia was married to Claude Stoney, son of Charles T. and Louis (Crosby) Stoney. She is a step-daughter in-law of Lulu. I knew them both as Uncle Claude and Aunt Julia.
(front row, middle) Moiselle was the daughter of Charles T. and Lulu, and my maternal grandmother. She was married to Joseph David Burbidge.
(front row, right) Wiora was the daughter of Charles T. and Lulu. She was married to Lawrence Barrett.
